What's Happening in Denison May 10-17
Here’s what’s happening in our community this weekend and the following week:
- Registrations are now being accepted for the Donna Reed Children’s Musical Theater Workshop, “Summer Camp: A Musical Caper About Finding a Place to Belong”. The fun-filled, week-long workshop will run from June 16 through 20 and will conclude with a performance for the public at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. Students who are completing grades three through eight this year will meet from 9:30 to 12:30 a.m., June 16 to 20. Cost of the workshop is $90 ($100 after June 1). Registration material for Children’s Musical Theatre is available at donnareed.org, by calling 712-263-3334 or by stopping at the Donna Reed Foundation office, 1305 Broadway in Denison.
Saturday, May 10
- The Boy Scouts of Troop 55 in Denison will conduct their May paper drive on Saturday, May 10, at the Wal-Mart parking lot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. to help individuals unload their tied, bundled or sacked newspapers. People may bring their acceptable papers in paper bags or cardboard boxes but not in plastic bags.
- The 2014 Monarch Softball Camp will take place Saturday, May 10, at the Denison High School softball field. The camp for girls in grades 2-6 will run from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Check-in time is 9:40 a.m. The cost of the camp is $15 and that includes a T-shirt. - Golf: Denison-Schleswig V B at Kuemper Invitational at Carroll, 8:30 a.m.
- Tennis: Denison-Schleswig V G at Spencer Invitational, 8:30 a.m
- Denison Key Club Color Race: Registration starts at 8:00am at the Denison High School. Race begins at 9:00am. Registration Forms are available at the CDC Office, 18 S Main, Denison.
Monday, May 12
- Denison Library Friends meeting at 5:30 p.m., Mon., May 12 in the Library Meeting Room. Agenda: normal board business. The meeting is open to all members of the Denison Library Friends.
Wednesday, May 14
- CDC Ribbon Cutting for Agape Biblical Counseling Center: Come welcome Pastor Martin Jansma, Director of the Agape Biblical Counseling Center, and celebrate their opening of the new counseling center at 31 S 14th St (in DBC). From Agape: “The journey of life can be hard and the Agape Biblical Counseling Center is here to offer help, hope , and healing using a holistic (mind, body, soul) approach to problems based on a foundation of Scripture. Our purpose at the Center is to offer guidance to hurting people in finding the answers they need to successfully live the life God designed them to live.”
Saturday, May 17
- Uptown Market: in beautiful uptown Denison from 10 am to 1 pm. Grab a coffee, walk the historic streets, and take in the sights and sounds of Uptown Market. Shop local retailers and unique merchants including: Fresh produce, plants and flowers, baked goods, handcrafted goods, gourmet foods and local art. - The Norelius Community Library will welcome author and speaker Joy Johnson Saturday, May 17, at 4 p.m. on the main level. The public is welcomed to the re-scheduled event. Light refreshments will be served. Contact the library at 712-263-9355 for more details.
