- Klondike Hotel Public Paranormal Investigation: Paranormal Distraction is putting on a public investigation at the Historic Klondike Hotel in Manilla IA. Come learn how to use our equipment and be an investigator for the night. The event runs from 8pm to 2am and the cost is $40.00 per person. Don’t delay as space is limited! - Thunder by the Tracks Outlaw Tractor Pull: Manilla Fire & Rescue invite you to attend the Annual Outlaw Tractor Pull in Manilla. There will be 8 Outlaw Categories & 1 3000 RPM Class. Registration begins at 4:00pm. The pull begins at 6:00pm in Manilla.
Sunday, June 29
- Open house at the City of Denison’s live fire training facility from 2 to 4 p.m. on June 29. Children are invited to take part in some fire safety activities and for an up-close look at Tower 1, the Denison Volunteer Fire Department’s aerial truck.
Thursday, July 3
- Denison Farmers Market: from 3-6 p.m. at the Northwest corner of Hwy 30 and 7th Street. Come check out the fresh produce from local farmers!
- Denison’s Annual Independence Day Celebration, titled “Red, White & Boom” will bring about a day of fun activities on Thursday, July 3.
- 1 p.m.: Bill Riley Talent Search in Washington Park. For more information on the talent search, contact Cory at 712-269-1401.
- 3:30 p.m.: Parade
- 5 p.m.: at Yellow Smoke Park where a DJ will entertain on the beachfront, vendors will sell nachos, hotdogs, popcorn and more. Summer Magic Tropical Sno will be there as well. Kids can look forward to prize giveaways, such as beach balls with glow sticks inside.
- 5:15 p.m.: sandcastle contest for children 12 years and under (registration at 5 p.m.; $2 entry fee)
- 6 p.m.: A beanbag tournament for children 13 years and older (registration at 5:30 p.m.; $2 entry fee for teams of two, including a t-shirt for each participant)
- 6:15 p.m.: sidewalk chalk contest for children ages 12 and under (registration at 6 p.m.; $2 entry fee)
- 7 p.m.: cardboard boat “Sink or Float” race (registration at 6:30 p.m.; entry fee of $20 per team)
- 7:30 p.m.: run/walk around the Yellow Smoke trail (registration at 7 p.m.; $20 entry fee, including a t-shirt for each participant)
- Events at Yellow Smoke Park will conclude with a fireworks show accompanied by patriotic music.
- For the duration of the Red, White & Boom,” the Neal Moeller Environmental Education Center at Yellow Smoke Park will host a cowboy-themed kids’ carnival. The carnival will take place on top of the hill at the nature center and will include free crafts in the back classroom. Tickets may be purchased, five for $1, to play the games outside the nature center.
- Denison’s Annual Independence Day Celebration is in need of volunteers for the Thursday, July 3, festivities. Tourism Coordinator Michele Ertz needs assistance in the sidewalk chalk art contest, the sandcastle contest, cardboard boat “Sink or Float” races, beanbag toss contest and much more. Saturday, July 5
- Isaac Walton League Kids Fishing Contest: at Yellow Smoke Park from 8am to 11am. Children 12 years old and younger are welcome to participate. Event is open to the public. Prizes will be awarded and short meal will be served after event.
- July 5-6: Polka Fest at the Arcadia Legion Hall. Dancing from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m. both days. July 5 features Malek’s Fisherman and Barefoot Becky. July 6 features Jim Busia and Mark Vyhlidal Orchestra.
